Broken Wheat Upma Kozhukattai

How about eating a healthy stuff for your breakfast or for your dinner???.. Actually i love anything cooked with broken wheat /wheat rava/Godhumai rava,make it either as a porridge or cook as like rice or else as briyani or upma, i love it to the core. Yesterday i felt bored of eating the same broken wheat upma, i tried my hands in making a upma and then steam cooked as dumplings, they came out simply awesome. You doesnt even need a side dish to enjoy this healthy dumplings, but still they tastes fabulous with a simple spicy coconut chutney.If you want to give a new avatar to the usual healthy broken wheat upma, make them as this steam cooked upma kozhukattais.


1cup Broken wheat/godhuma rava/wheat rava
2tbsp Yellow moongdal
1no Onion (chopped)
1no Green chilly (chopped)
1/4cup Grated coconut
1tsp Ginger (minced)
1tsp Mustard seeds+urad dal
1/2tsp Channadal
3nos Dry red chillies
1/4tsp Asafoetida powder
Few Curry leaves
2cups Water
1tbsp Oil
Salt

Dry roast the broken rava in a pan until a nice aroma comes out, dry roast the moongdal in the same pan for few minutes.

Take the roasted wheat rava in a mixie, give a quick grind, keep aside.

Heat the oil, let splutters the mustard seeds, urad dal,channadal,dry red chillies,fry until they turns brown.

Add now the sliced onions,grated ginger,curry leaves and chopped green chillies,sauté until the onions turns transculent.

Immediately add the salt, cook for few seconds, add the water and bring everything to boil..

Add now the roasted rava, roasted moongdal,grated coconut to the cooking veggies, stir continously until the wheat rava gets well cooked,put off the stove.

Let it cool completely.

Make medium sized balls from the upma and steam cook them in cooker for 7-10minutes.

Serve warm.
