Falafel

As per wiki,Falafel  is a deep-fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both. Falafel is a traditional Middle Eastern food, commonly served in a pita, which acts as a pocket, or wrapped in a flatbread known as lafa; "falafel" also frequently refers to a wrapped sandwich that is prepared in this way. The falafel balls are topped with salads, pickled vegetables, hot sauce, and drizzled with tahini-based sauces. Falafel balls may also be eaten alone as a snack or served as part of a meze aka appetizers.Falafel is a common dish eaten throughout the Middle East. The fritters are now found around the world as a replacement for meat and as a form of street food.

Am running my second week of blogging marathon with pick one and do three, and i picked fried dough foods from the links given by Srivalli, after a dangerously addictive and very crispy onion pakoda, my today's post goes to this famous Middle Eastern deep fried beauties Falafel, this crispy balls are dangerously addictive and one cant stop munching this balls as are fantabulous to have even without any side dish. I used chickpeas for making falafel and needless to say that this falafels vanished very quickly once they came out of the hot oil.Check out the Blogging Marathon page for the other Blogging Marathoners doing BM#50.


1/4kg Chickpeas (soaked overnite)
1no Onion
1/2tsp Cumin seeds
1tsp Coriander seeds
5 Garlic cloves
1/4cup Fresh parsley leaves
1/4cup Coriander leaves
Salt
1/2tsp Baking powder
1/3cup Flour
1/2tsp Pepper powder

Drain the soaked water from the chickpeas.

Grind the chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley,cumin seeds, coriander seeds and coriander leaves into a thick paste. Take care not to add too much of water.

Transfer the blended mixture into a large bowl and add the salt, baking powder, flour and pepper.

Stir until well combined.

Cover with plastic wrap and let it sit in the fridge for an hour.

Heat enough oil for deepfrying.

Make small balls out of the dough and drop them gently into oil.

Deep fry them on both sides, drain the excess of oil with a paper towel.

Enjoy hot with your favourite sauce.
