Pissaladière is a French style of pizza which have its origin from Nice in Southern France. The dough used usually for making this dish is a bread doughwhich is rolled bit thicker than the classic pizza Margherita. And the topping consists of caramelised onions, black olives and anchoives. It is served as an appetizer and its traditionally cooked and sold early each morning around Nice. Pissaladière is a French style Onion pizza which can be enjoyed as a main dish or an appetizer depending upon how they are served. The main ingredient for preparing this aromatic pissaladiére is slow cooked onions, gently fried until they are soft, sweet and caramelized. Traditional Niçoise Pissaladière calls for anchovies,and my today's post is a Vegan Pissaladière. Vegan Pissaladière is definitely a fabulous treat for vegan lovers.
This French Onion Pizza is quite a cheesless pizza topped with caramelized onions, black olives and red pepper strips. If you are looking for an different aromatic rich pizza for your meal, you should take a look to this delicious Pissaladière. Store bought pizza dough works awesome as well,however apart from chopping onions, this dish is quite an easiest one. Since i had some homemade pizza dough in fridge, i simply prepared slowly cooked caramelized onions for toppings. Easy to make this Pissaladière served along with some salads makes a super satisfying meal for our lunch or dinner. Am running this week's blogging marathon with Explore French as this week's theme. Pissaladière is a well known French style onion pizza, hence am posting this dish for this theme.
Pizza Dough
1/2kg Sliced Onions
Black olives
Red pepper strips
Olive oil
Pepper powder
Salt
Thymn leaves
1tsp Brown sugar
Heat enough olive oil in a pan, add the sliced onions and saute for a while.
Once the onions turns transculent, add the sugar,salt,pepper powder, thymn leaves and saute until the onions gets caramelized.
Put off the stove and let it cool completely.
Roll out the pizza dough as thick round shaped disc.
Preheat the oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet on a baking tray and keep aside.
Transfer the rolled round shaped disc to the baking tray.
Top the shaped dough with enough caramlized onions, followed by the red pepper strips.
Now drop the black olives as per need. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the crust turns golden brown.
Put off the oven, remove the Pissaladière .
Slice and enjoy.
