Rasam is a medicinal Indian soup which is prepared everyday to please our tastebuds as well as to helps for easy digestion. This dish is quite a usual one at home. A kind of comforting food for me. Am running this week's blogging marathon with One vegetable different ways as theme. Once i picked Onions as the vegetable for this week's theme, i couldnt resist to prepare a rasam with. This rasam is definitely a fingerlicking dish which is quite a comforting food as well. Rasam, this dish is usually made with a grounded spiced rasam powder which calls for a combination of spices. But this onion rasam is seriously different from the usual rasam. Onion rasam calls for white onions which is quite not a usual one for making rasam. Mostly shallots are used for dishing out this incredible dish, but for a change i tried this dish with white onions.

Arisithippili Rasam/Long Pepper Rasam/Thippili Sathumudu
During my last Indian trip, i picked some medicinal value rich spices from herbal medicine shops. One among those herbal spices i treasure carefully is this Arisithippili aka long pepper, this pepper is a relative of black pepper. Kandathippili is the bark of Piper lon gum/long pepper and the dried fruit is called Arisi thippili. Thippili rasam is a very interesting home remedy for common cold, cough and body aches. The spiciness of this pepper will tickle the tastebuds when you are suffering with cold. The roots, leaves and dry fruits are used very much in many more home remedies. This rasam was one of my favourite and i do often at home when the weather is very much dull. This comforting food can be enjoyed thoroughly even if you are not sick. But however having this rasam while you have cough or cold helps a lot to feel much better.

Rasam is a comforting food for most of us. These spiced Indian soup goes for different spices which have numerous medicinal values. Peppercorns and cumin seeds are the most important spices we use for making rasam. Some may go for freshly grounded rasam powder, while some make monthly once their rasam powder and conserve them air tight containers for further use. Rasam, this spiced soup is my family's favourite, so if its rice for lunch i'll make rasam definitely to serve with rice, yes we love rasam that much.
Coming to this chicken rasam, this dish is very popular in chettinad cuisine, and they are often made when someone in the family suffers with cold. Even a tasteless tongue during fever or cold will enjoy thoroughly this spicy rasam. This chicken rasam is made by the chicken with bones, which can be eaten while enjoying this rasam or else you can just fry them separately with spices by removing them once the rasam is cooked. However we love our chicken pieces with rasam, this dish is going to be a part of Tamizhar Samayal Tuesday, happening twice a month.

Gooseberry Rasam/Nellikkai Rasam
Life is back to routine, kids are back to school and am missing their small fights, their discussion, suddenly the house is so calm and boring now. Coming to the recipe, its a delicious, healthy and a quick rasam with gooseberries. This weekend i picked some gooseberries from Indian stores and tried my hand in preparing this different and healthy rasam. Gooseberries, Amla aka Nellikkai have numerous health benefits and this berries are cooked as many dishes in Indian cuisine.
Usually i'll make rice or pickle out of this gooseberries, after making a rasam with gooseberries few month back, i tried an another version of rasam and they came out extremely awesome. Instead of cooking or adding whole pieces of gooseberries,i went for a gooseberry puree which i prepared simply by grinding the raw berries, check an another interesting gooseberry & dal rasam i prepared previously by pressure cooking the gooseberries. If you get gooseberries abundantly dont forget to make some rasam out of it.One more interesting rasam from my kitchen which am adding to my vast rasam collection.
