Vegetarian Bolognese Calzone/Vegetarian Ragu Alla Bolognese Calzone

Calzone is an Italian baked folded pizza which have its origin from Naples, Italy. A typical calzone is made with a yeasted bread dough, baked in oven stuffed usually with meats and cheese. However many variations of calzone do exists with different stuffings. Though some small calzones are fried in olive oil, baking calzone is quite popular. Calzone dough ressembles as much as like pizza dough however many recipes of calzone are prepared with usual pizza dough. Calzones are usually stuffed with cheeses like ricotta, mozzerella, parmesan and else with local cheese. My today's calzone goes for a vegetarian version, which makes a prefect meal when served along with some salads or else for an evening snacks with a cup of tea of coffee. You have numerous choice to serve and enjoy this ultimate calzone.

Vegetarian Bolognese calzone, Vegetarian Calzone


Very easy to make, calzone calls for yeasted dough apart from it, you can bake this folded pizza easily at home with any stuffing topped with cheese.My today's post calls for a nutritious, delicious, filling and definitely satisfying calzone stuffed simply with Vegetarian Bolognese Sauce topped with some grated mozzarella cheese. My kids are ardent fan of this folded pizza, obviously whenever i feel like feeding them easily or quickly with healthy stuffs, i dont hesitate a second to make some calzone to feed them. Who will say no to this absolutely delicious cheese and vegetable loaded calzone and this calzone was a big hit at home. These calzone are going to this week's blogging marathon as am running this week's theme with One sauce Two dishes.

Vegetable Bolognese Calzone

For Dough:
3cups All purpose flour
3/4cup Luke warm water
1tsp Dry instant yeast
1tbsp Sugar
1/2tsp Salt
3tbsp Olive oil (for kneading)
1/2tsp Dry Oregano
Olive oil for brushing
2cups Vegetarian Bolognese Sauce
1cup Grated cheese

Take the sugar, salt, flour,yeast, warm water in a bowl. Knead everything well, add gradually the olive oil for kneading.

Knead well for few minutes until you get a soft and smooth dough.

Arrange the dough in a greased bowl,keep aside for an hour in warm place.

Once the dough doubled the volume, punch the dough and knead again.

Divide the dough as 4 equal balls,dust the balls and roll each as 1/4of an inch thickness, transfer the rolled dough to a baking sheet lined over a baking tray.

Fill the vegetarian bolognese sauce generouly over the rolled disc, sprinkle the cheese.

Vegetable & Beans Bolognese Calzone

Brush the edges with the milk,fold it as half moon. Seal well the edges with your fingers, and seal it completely with a fork.

Brush the top with milk. Let it sit again in a warm place for 20minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350F, bake for 20-25minutes until the crust turns golden brown.

Brush the baked calzone generously with the olive oil, once its comes out of the oven.

Enjoy warm.

When I first came to US, I liked meat stuffed calzones and use to eat it each time I went to the mall. Veggie version looks good.
