Aloo Matar Besan Curry/Potato & Peas in Gramflour Curry

Indian cuisine is loaded with many delightful dishes and its one of the flavourful cuisine of the world. From easy to traditional, many varieties of curries and gravies do exists. Am running this week's blogging marathon with Easy Dinner Dishes as theme, and i have been sharing some easy Indian curries for the theme. My today's post is an easy curry which is very simple, quick and delicious to cook with pantry friendly ingredients. This besan curry is my mom's signature dish which she never fail to make whenever she makes pooris for our breakfast or dinner. One of the simplest side dish to prepare with less ingredients and spices.

Aloo Matar Besan Curry, Potato & Peas gramflour curry


This curry is just a prefect side dish to serve with pooris however i love to have this curry with some phulkas or rotis. Mildly spiced one can have this curry happily and this curry suits absolutely prefect to feed a kid easily as well. One of the easy breezy curry, trust me if you give a try once, you will definitely dont forget the taste of this simple curry. Potato is our family favourite, obviously potato is a must to prepare this curry, however you can add varieties of vegetables  to make this curry more healthy and colourful.Give a try to this quick curry and do let me know.

Aloo Matar Besan Curry

2nos Potatoes (cooked & cubes)
1/2cup Fresh green peas
1 Onion (big & sliced thinly)
1/2tsp Mustard seeds
1tsp Cumin seeds
1tsp Ginger (grated)
Few curry leaves
1tsp Gram flour
1/4tsp Turmeric powder
1/4tsp Asafoetida powder
Salt
Oil

Heat enough oil in a pan, let splutters the mustard seeds, cumin seeds.

Add the grated ginger,asafeotida powder, curry leaves. Now add the sliced onions and saute everything until the onions turns transculent.

Add the fresh peas, saute for a while, add the cubed potatoes and cook for few seconds.

Aloo Matar Besan Curry, Vegan Potato Peas Gramflour curry

Add two cups of water, salt, turmeric powder and let it boil for a while.

Make a thin paste of gramflour with water.

Add this paste to the cooking vegetables, add the thickness by adding enough water.

Cook until the curry turns semi thick.

Serve hot as side dish with rotis or pooris.

  1. Tha potato and pea curry with besan sounds really delicious . Besan always gives a nice flavour to any curry besides acting as a thickening agent . My mom normally used a tsp if wheat flour , but besan is a great idea .

  2. I also use wheat flour as a thickener, but I think gram flour will be better suited for poori sabzi. It will bring its own flavor also to the curry.

  3. Bowl of aloo matar besan curry is tempting. I too add some besan to potato curry when making for poori but in my curry, potatoes are mushy.

  7. I sometimes add besan to thicken up the curry sauces but never used it as a main ingredient. Such a nice and tasty curry to pair with roti.

  9. This is making me so nostalgic. Even mom used to make this. And there was one more without the potatoes and peas and with loads of knions which was fantastic with dosas. Yum.

  11. I make a besan chutney (subzi) called the Bombay chutney and this is even better than that as it has potatoes and peas. Lovely recipe and this is my comfort food!

  12. Besan imparts a rich texture and aroma to dishes. I make this often for weekday meals. The bowl of curry looks delicious!!
