Pesto Twisted Bread

Today is the final day of a month of Bake-a-thon, this baking event happens every december of the year since few years.Eventhough i want to finish this event with a sweet note, somehow i couldnt stop myself posting this savoury pesto twisted bread. This bread is quite easy to make and simple to shape. A homemade or storebought pesto is quite enough to make this incredible twisted bread. A prefect bread to have with a bowl of soup or one can have simply for their snacks.

Pesto twisted bread

This time i went for pesto but however you can simply replace this savoury spread simply with nutella spread or pizza sauce to make a sweet/savory version of this twisted bread. This bread is dangerously addictive and my kids enjoyed thoroughly for their snacks.

Savoury Pesto bread

4cups All purpose flour
1+1/2tsp Instant yeast
1tsp Sugar
60grms Butter (melted)
200ml Luke warm water
1tsp Salt
5tbsps Coriander Cashew Pesto
Cheddar cheese (grated)
1tbsp Milk (for brushing)
2tbsps Oil(for brushing)

Take the flour, sugar, salt, yeast in a bowl, mix the melted butter and water together.

Add this mixture to the flour and knead everything as smooth and soft dough for 10-15minutes.

Arrange the bread dough in greased bowl, cover it with a towel and arrange in a warm place. Let it sit for an hour or two until the dough double its volume.

Punch the dough and knead for 5minutes, divide the dough into 8 equal balls to make two twisted bread.

Take a portion and roll it as a circle with 2mm thick.

Line a baking sheet in a baking tray, transfer the rolled circle dough and spread a tablespoon of pesto over the dough, take care not to spread till the edges.

Continue the same way with the remaining three dough and stack the rolled circles one over another

With a sharp knife, cut the circles as 4,keeping the center intact, then cut into 8 wedges.

Take two wedges with your hands, hold them and turn them both together in opposite direction, that means right hand should turn right and the left hand should turn left.

Continue the same way with the remaining wedges.

Now the bread is ready, prove again for 30minutes. Sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese, brush gently the bread with milk.

Preheat the oven to 350F.

Arrange in the middle rack of the oven and bake for 20-25minutes until the top turns golden brown.

Place the bread on a wire rack and brush it with oil, let it cool completely.

Enjoy this dangerously addictive bread.
