Vella Aval/Sweet RedRice Flakes/Avil

Aval aka rice flakes makes excellent snacks just with some grated coconut and sugar. My pantry will always have rice flakes, earlier i always get white rice flakes from stores but as a health nut am converting most of our usual dishes with healthy twist. Obviously instead of  getting white rice flakes nowadays i buy red rice flakes and you can make varieties of dishes out this healthy rice flakes. Today's recipe goes for a super easy evening snack. if you have jaggery syrup at home trust me this vella aval takes hardly few minutes to get ready.

Sweet rice flakes, vella aval

Actually this vella aval is going for this week's blogging marathon as am running with Dorm/Single serve recipes as theme. This vella aval suits prefect for a single serving as well as for hassle free dorm recipes. With simple ingredients, you can just dish out this healthy evening snack quickly. This Vella aval is definitely a healthy, satisfying and filling dish for a hungry tummy. You can easily feed anyone with this incredible, sweetened rice flakes with jaggery syrup. Actually you need to make a jaggery syrup by combining grated jaggery and water, once the jaggery syrup gets ready, this dish is almost done.Since i used thick red rice flakes, i soaked them for few minutes and drained them using a strainer, this makes the rice flakes soft and prefect to make this healthy dish.Check out the Blogging Marathon page for the other Blogging Marathoners doing BM#58.

Sweet red rice flakes, Inippu Aval

1cup Red rice flakes
1/2cup Jaggery
1/2tsp Cardamom powder
1/4cup Grated coconut

Add quarter cup of water to the jaggery and make the syrup, strain the syrup with a strainer.

Meanwhile soak the thick red rice flakes for 5minutes in water, and strain it.

Now take the jaggery syrup and soaked red rice flakes in a pan, and cook until the rice flakes absorbs completely the syrup.

Add the cardamom powder and grated jaggery to the aval.

Serve warm or at room temperature.
