Rice flakes are heart healthy and fat free, they are good source of vitamins with loads of minerals. Poha aka rice flakes are easy to cook and very filling while eaten. You can dish out poha based dishes just in few minutes as they gets cooked quickly. Less in calorie, poha are very versatile and you can make many delicious dishes with this incredible ingredient. Batata poha is a popular Maharashtrian breakfast or snack prepared quickly with rice flakes and potato, poha means rice flakes and batata means potatoes.Usually thin and white rice flakes are used for making for this super filling dish. But i replaced it with red rice flakes and trust me this batata poha will definitely satisfy your tastebuds.
Am running my second week of blogging marathon with healthy diet/diabetic diet as this week's theme. Needless to say this healthy and super filling batata poha suits prefectly awesome to this theme. Red rice flakes are highly healthy than the usual rice flakes, obviously if you want to keep yourself healthy and fit, just get brown/red rice and replace it with white rice. Coming to this dish, it takes hardly less time to get ready as rice flakes gets easily cooked. Even if you are in hurry, you can dish out this aloo poha in less time. 1cup Red rice flakes/Sivappu aval
1no Onion (chopped)
2nos Boiled potatoes (cubed)
1tsp Lemon Juice
1tsp Ginger chilly paste
Salt
1/4tsp Turmeric powder
Oil - 1 tbsp
1/2tsp Mustard Seeds
1/4tsp Asafoetida powder
Peanuts
Take the red rice flakes in a big colander or a sieve and wash it under running water.
Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, strain completely.
Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds, asafoetida powder and peanuts.
Roast it on low flame till the peanuts gets roasted.
Add the chopped onions, ginger-chilly paste, and turmeric powder. Saute for minute.
Add the soaked red rice flakes, cubed boiled potatoes and mix.
Sprinkle few drops of water if needed. Cover with a lid, reduce the flame and cook for few minutes.
Finally add the lemon juice and switch off the stove.

Very healthy and tasty recipe.
I have recently started using red rice flakes and love them because they are chewier and nuttier than regular poha. Your dish looks yummy!!
