American Apple Pie

An apple pie is prepared usually with a buttery pie crust in which the principal filling ingredient is apple. Served usually after a lunch or dinner, apple pie makes an excellent dessert to enjoy without any guilt. I love apple pie very much, i have already tried couple of apple pie with different variations, and trust me everytime i bake an apple pie, its a huge hit at home. Obviously apple pie is our family favourite especially for my kids. They can have happily few slices without any fuss as this apple loaded pie is definitely one of the best way to sneak apples in our diet. My today's post is an old fashioned apple pie which is often baked in American households. And this pie calls for two pie crusts with sliced apples coated with cinnamon powder,ground allspice,nutmeg powder and vanilla extract.

Though pie crust is easy to prepare at home, i opted for store bought pie crusts as i want to go for an easy breezy apple pie. I baked this pie for a small get together and we enjoyed thoroughly this apple loaded pie with few scoops of vanilla icecream. Seriously a scoop of vanilla icecream served along with warm apple pie makes an excellent dessert after a heavy meal.Am running this week's blogging marathon with an interesting theme, yes my theme for this week's blogging marathon is Kid's Delight-Fruit based recipe. Since this American apple pie is my kid's favourite, i couldnt resist to post this delicious pie for this week's theme.

Apple pie, American apple pie

2nos Pie crusts
3nos Apples (peeled, cored and sliced)
1tbsp Lemon juice
1/2cup Sugar
3tbsp All-purpose flour for thickening
1/4tsp Ground allspice
1/4tsp Ground nutmeg
1/2tsp Ground cinnamon
1tsp Vanilla extract

Line a pie crust over a pie mould. Add the allspice, nutmeg powder, cinnamon powder, vanilla extract lemon juice, sugar to the sliced apples.

Toss the apples well and keep aside. Spoon the apple slices over the pie crust.

Arrange the apple slices in the dough-lined pie plate.

Top the arranged apple slices with a crust, trim and crimp edges. Press the top and bottom dough rounds together  using thumb or press with a fork.

Use a sharp knife to cut slits in the top of the pie crust for steam vents.Preheat the oven to 350F.

Place pie in the middle rack of the oven and bake the pie for 20 minutes or until the crust turns brown.

Let the pie gets cool.

Serve slightly warm with a scoop of vanilla icecream or at room temperature.
