Rasawala Bateta Nu Shaak/Rasawala Aloo/Gujarati Aloo Curry

Anything cooked with potatoes will definitely make everyone happy. Dunno why potatoes are our most favourite vegetable, i cant just stop cooking with them. Twice a week, potato curry makes its humble entry in our menu and we just love it. Obviously if i get a chance to cook a different dish with potato i wont miss that chance. I love Gujarati cuisine very much,whenever i love to make a North Indian meal at home, i'll check definitely to make a different dish from this cuisine. I have bookmarked this Rasawala aloo curry from here long back, as this curry aka gravy calls for easy cooking. Very simple to make, this rasawala aloo takes hardly less than 15minutes if you cook this curry in Pressure cooker.

Gujarati Rasawala Aloo


With simple and easy ingredients, you can dish out this lipsmacking gravy with less efforts. Rasawala Bateta Nu Shaak or Rasawala Aloo means potato curry with gravy. As per the author of this site, this curry is well known in North and Western part of India, especially in Gujarat. This curry is served during weddings or else for many occasions as this curry is often prepared in every Gujarati homes. This spicy and tangy rasawale aloo makes an excellent side dish to relish with rotis though its tastes fabulous when served with puran poli. Seriously i want to taste this aloo curry with puran poli combo once at home. This post is going to this week's blogging marathon as am running with bookmarked theme as theme for this week.

Rasawala Potato, Rasawala Bateta Nu Shaak

3nos Potatoes (sliced thinly)
1cup Tomato (chopped)
Oil
1/2tsp Mustard seeds
1tsp Cumin seeds
1/4tsp Fenugreek seeds
1Bay leaf
1no Dry red chilly
1tbsp Red chilly powder
1/2tsp Garam masala
1/4tsp Turmeric powder
1tbsp Coriander powder
1/2tbsp Grated ginger
Chopped coriander leaves

Heat enough oil in a pressure cooker, add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, bay leaf, dry red chilly, fenugreek seeds and fry.

Add the grated ginger and cook for a minute, add immediately the sliced potatoes and mix well.

Now add the red chilly powder, coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, salt and mix well.

Add the tomatoes, cook until the tomatoes turns mushy. Add enough water and pressure cook for 5minutes, dont put the whistle.

Serve immediately topped with coriander leaves.
