Chow mein, is a stir fried noodles and this dish very popular in Chinese restaurant menus. Not only in chinese restaurants, this dish is seriously popular in many countries like Nepal, India and United states etc. Chow means fried and Mein means Noodles, hence the main ingredient for making this dish is noodles. This stir fried noodles can be prepared with many variations.In American chinese cuisine, chicken is the most common meat though sometimes pork,beef ,shrimp or tofu can be substitued. However vegetarian and vegan chow mein do exists. Do you know Chow mein do exists as two types, yes one is steamed chow mein and crispy chow mein whick is also known as Hong Kong style chow mein.
My today's post is an alluring vegan chow mein prepared with crispy tofu. Am running this week's blogging marathon with Make take out at home as theme. Whenever we go to Chinese restaurants, we dont forget to order Chow meain as this stir fried noodles are my kids favourite. Actually, i have been looking for a chance to dish out this incredible dish at home, finally i dished out this vegan chow mein for this month's theme.Give a try to this tofu chow mein, and trust me you wont miss meat in this dish.
250grams Extra firm tofu (cubed)
1tbsp Soya sauce
1 Minced garlic
Marinate the tofu cubes with soya sauce with minced garlic and keep aside for half an hour.
1packet Chowmein noodles
1tbsp Sesame oil
1tsp Grated giner
2 Garlic cloves (minced)
3cups Mixed vegetables (Carrot, pea pods, bell pepper; chopped bok choy)
Peanuts (roasted)
1/4cup Soya sauce
1tbsp Rice vinegar
1tbsp Sugar
Cook the noodles as per the packet's instructions.
Heat oil for frying and fry the tofu cubes until they turns crispy.
Meanwhile heat the sesame oil,add the minced garlic cloves, grated ginger until the aroma comes from.
Add the vegetables and saute well, add the soya sauce, vinegar, sugar to the vegetable and cook for a while.
Add the fried tofu cubes and cooked noodles, toss everything in high flame and put off the stove.
Garnish the chow mein with some roasted peanuts and enjoy.

Wow , that bowl of noodles looks yummy . It is so colourful and I am trying to absorb the flavors . Love the use of sesame oil here , must have given it a exotic flavour .

Not a big fan of tofu, but chow mein looks absolutely delicious.
