Vegan Popcorn Chicken/Vegan Soya Popcorn

I remember the first time when we had popcorn chicken in a fast food channel few years back, my kids were fighting to finish a large box of those crispy succulent popcorn chicken bites, they love popcorn chicken that much. As this month's theme for the event  Friendship 5 Series, an event by Geetha and Savitha went for Fast foods for kids, i thought that i should give a try to some vegan popcorn chicken instead of usual popcorn chicken. I googled for making this vegan version, each one is different and some of the recipe asked for garlic powder etc, but finally i ended up mine with my own ideas eventhough i got hooked to Ecurry's vegan popcorn chicken. They came out just awesome and we couldnt stop munching them. Deepfried snacks are always kid's favourite, they can have anything when its deepfried, even my kids are not exceptional, they can even have bittergourd if its deep fried.

Soyachunks boiled in vegetable stock and crushed garlic gives a wonderful flavour while munching this deep fried vegan popcorns. I just prepared the bread crumbs simply with dried herbs, chaat masala, pepper powder, salt with a pinch of nutmeg powder, else for coating i went for a simple white paste prepared with all purpose flour, pepper powder and salt. Just with few ingredients, you can reproduce this vegan version of popcorn at home and am sure kids will go crazy if they saw this highly addictive soya popcorn. You can also prepare the same with chicken chunks in case if you want to make them as non vegetarian version, but trust me this vegan ones are also very addictive as much as the non vegetarian chicken popcorns.

2cups Soya chunks
4cups Vegetable broth
3nos Garlic cloves (crushed)
1tsp Salt
1cup All purpose flour
2tbsp Corn flour
3/4cup Vegetable broth (use the soyachunks soaked broth)
1cup Bread crumbs
1tbsp Pepper powder
1/2tsp Salt
1tbsp Dried parsley leaves
1tsp Dried basil leaves
A pinch Nutmeg powder
1/4tsp Chaat masala

Bring boil the vegetable broth with garlic cloves, salt, put off the stove.

Add the soyachunks, cover the lid and let it stay for half an hour or until the chunks turns soft.

Drain the chunks and dont discard the broth.

Mix the all purpose flour, corn flour, pepper powder, salt and the vegetable broth, make a thick white paste.

Squeeze the soyachunks and add it to the spiced white paste, mix well until the soya chunks gets well coated.

In a ziploc bag, take the bread crumbs, dried herbs, nutmeg powder, chaat masala and salt, shake well.

Add the spiced paste coated soya chunks to the zip loc bag and shake it well until the soya chunks gets well coated with the spiced bread crumbs.

Drop the bread crumbs coated soya chunks one by one to the hot oil, fry in medium flame until they turns golden brown.

Drain the excess of oil with paper towel.

Enjoy with your favourite sauce.
