Spinach Naan/Palak Naan

Naan, this leavened flatbread is prepared at home whenever i make some gourmet gravies for our lunch or dinner. Actually naan is one of our family favourite after Parotta. Eventhough i prepare both parotta and naan quite rarely as its consumes bit time than the rotis or phulkas, everyone at home love both Naans & parottas. Naan can be prepared with yeast or without yeast depending upon your tastebuds. Though no yeast Naan breads are prepared easily, dunno why my kids love this yeasty, spongy and soft Naan breads. Hence i do rarely make naan dough without yeast. One of our recent dinner for a chilled evening was some soft spinach loaded Naan bread. We had a fall vacation few weeks back, and i dished out this spinach naan for our dinner.

Spinach Naan, Palak Naan

Simple to make this Naan called for a spinach puree which is gradually added to a combination of both wholewheat flour and all purpose flour to make a soft dough. Yes i used half whole wheat and half all purpose flour to make this healthy green Naans. And this spinach naan came out extremely delicious with a pleasant greenish colour. Kids enjoyed thoroughly with an another healthy and protein rich side dish which is also quite easy to dish out. Am running this week's blogging marathon with colourful dishes as theme, hence my three dishes for this week will be different and colourful dishes to stick with the theme.

Palak Naan, Spiced Spinach Naan Bread

1cup All purpose flour
1cup Whole wheat flour
1tsp Instant Yeast
1/4cup Luke Warm milk
1/2cup Spinach puree
1tsp Sugar
Salt

Take the flours, yeast, sugar, salt in a bowl.

Now add gradually the luke warm milk, spinach puree and turn everything as a smooth and soft dough.

Arrange the dough in a bowl, cover it with a damp cloth.

Keep in a warm place for an hour.

Once the dough gets rised, punch down and knead again for few minutes.

Divide the dough as 5-6medium sized balls.

Slightly flatten the dough, gently roll it as a oblong or oval shaped dish with a rolling pin.

Heat the tawa in high flame.

Brush some water on one side of the naan.

Drop immediately water brushed side of the naan to the hot tawa.

Once its gets cooked, flip the naan and cook the other side.

Remove the cooked naan from the tawa..

Brush the naan with butter.

Serve with your favourite side dish.
